Week 11 Preview

Week 11 starts tonight with the Dolphins at Panthers. Ronnie Brown is out for the season now, which really hurts the Dolphins. It ends any chances (which were slim to begin with) of them making it to the playoffs. Enough with this, lets get to the other games.

Game of the Week:
Eagles at Bears.
This a downgrade from last week. That said, the reason this is the game of the week is I think the loser of this one is out of the playoff race. One of these teams might have a chance to get there. The Bears D has been horrific, especially against the pass and thats all the Eagles know how to do. Also, the Eagles blitz a lot and Cutler has not dealt with the blitz well at all. I actually think that Da Bears win this in a close one because they've had an extra 3 days of work and motivation after the loss to the 49ers. Cutler will be better.

Worst Game of the Week
Browns at Lions
I like the Lions, but this is a bad game. Cleveland sucks all around. The offense is bad. The Lions offense is ok, the D is bad. I am picking the Lions. I think that they will win by 10 or more. I know thats a stretch with the Lions. But they are playing the Browns (who I think will have the #1 pick next year).

Lock of the Week
Jets at Patriots
I don't think this is a close one. Both teams are coming off of a close loss. The Patriots will rebound better. It is in Foxboro and Belichick and Brady will not lose a 2nd straight game. The Patriots should win this pretty comfortably. Mark Sanchez is going to turn it over a little. The Jets only chance is if the the D shows up like crazy and Thomas Jones gets going.

Upset Alert
Chargers over Broncos
I already picked the Bears over the Eagles, which is shakey, but thats what upsets are. The Chargers are the underdog, but I think they will win this one rather easily. The Chargers have a good offense and Denver's D has gotten worse. I think that San Diego is on the rise and Denver is on the decline. Thats it.

Week 10 Review

Belichick. Bill! What were you thinking? Ok, I get it you wanted to close out the game and keep it out of Peyton's hands. But consider this. Peyton had thrown 2 INTs. I would rather risk having Peyton go 70 yards instead of 30 yards. He obviously does not trust his defense. That it the message to his team. He doesn't believe in the defense. This was just one where I think he outsmarted himself. If they lose after punting than at least he says to his defense, I trusted you and you let me down. Three Super Bowl rings backing him up, so I guess you give him the benefit of the doubt. Colts have all but wrapped up a first round bye.

Who Dey, Who Dey, Who Dey think gon' beat them Bengals? Not the Steelers. For the first time since 1998 and the second time since 1990 that the Bengals have swept the Steelers in oone year. As someone who has followed and rooted for the Bengals for a long time, I still have a little doubt in my head that they will screw this up. But they are good. Anyone who beats the Steelers twice in one season is good. I'm liking this. Keep it up Bengals, you deserve this season.
On the flip side. What are they thinking signing Larry Johnson? You are on a roll and just got rid of the Jail Bengals moniker. Why would you do this to yourselves? He is not that good anymore. I know Cedric Benson may be hurt, but Bernard Scott is good and they could sign someone better than L.J.

Cutler. Wow, what a bad day. Cutler threw 5 INTs. That sucks. He was my fantasy QB. He is going to be benched by me. This was a horrible outing and it made me sick to watch it. I said at the time of the trade between the Bears and Broncos that Denver got the better of the trade. Cutler has a big arm, but is immature and not smart. Orton plays within himself and I like him better because he doesn't turn it over very often. Then the Bears gave up 2 first round picks. How does that taste Chicage? You like that.

Redskins. I just have to give love to the Skins for beating Denver. That was good to see. They probably don't win if Orton doesn't miss the 2nd half with injury. But they pulled together and did not let Denver score in the second half. Good work Skins.

New HTML

I know that it looks a little funny, but I have been teaching myself HTML code over the last couple of hours. I decided to try and use it for this weeks blog. It takes a little bit of time, especially when you are just learning what you are doing. There are links to the teams that are listed. Click on the team name and it will take you to the website.

Game of the Week

PatriotsatColts
This should be a great game. The Patriots and Colts meet for the seventh consecutive season as the rivalry grows bigger each season. The Colts have won 4 of the last 5. It is in Indy, but the Colts have 3 of 4 starting DB's out against Tom Brady and his receivers. That is huge for the Patriots. If the Colts are going to win they have to win it in somewhat of a shootout. I don't see it being low scoring anyways, but the Pats have a better chance of winning if they keep the game to a slow pace. All week there has been a debate about who you would rather have. I don't think you can go wrong with either. They are pretty close to equal...except Manning's commercials are better. I will definitely be watching this one on NBC's Sunday Night Football.

Worst Game of the Week

ChiefsatRaiders
This is a horrible game. Who will watch this outside of Raiders and Chiefs fans, and even some of them probably won't watch this. It is ugly. I pick the Chiefs to win it though.

Lock of the Week

SaintsatRams
The Saints offense is better, their defense is better. The only thing the Rams have better is Steven Jackson and he can't be the Aints by himself, oh wait, they aren't the Aints anymore. This shouldn't be close, but I've been wrong on this twice this year. Drew Brees is going to carve up the Rams.

Upset of the Week

I could choose the the Patriots over the Colts because technically they are underdogs, but its not really an upset. So here you go.

PanthersoverFalcons

I don't think Atlanta is as good as everyone thinks and I think Carolina is better than everyone thinks. I like both running games, but I like Carolina's defense more. I know Matt Ryan is good, but he might get to know Julius Peppers very well this week. I like Carolina at home. It should be a good game, but Carolina takes it.

Week 9 Review

Buccaneers: Well, congrats to the Bucs. They destroyed my lock of the week. So for the 2nd time in 9 weeks, my lock of the week was wrong. It happens. Good work. The bigger question is, what is wrong with the Packers? Is there a more inconsistent team in the NFL? Don't get used to it Tampa. Its still going to be a rough season, but at least there will be no repeat of the 2008 Lions.

Bengals: Ok, they are for real. I think it is time to stop doubting them. I thought they would be ok and have a few nice wins but not a true threat. I think it is because I've always rooted for the Bengals and if you've watched and rooted for them you expect it all to fall apart. It is still possible, but I think this team is good, not lucky occasionally. They are very close to 7-1. They have a stout defense and a good running and passing game.

Undefeateds: Saints and Colts. They both got close to losing, but they won and that is all that matters. I believe both will lose at least a game this season. The Patriots are playing both over the next 3 weeks and I know that will be a tough one for both teams. The impressive thing is both teams have blown teams out and had to comeback and win.

Larry Johnson: The Chiefs cut him and I say good for them. They are trying to build something there and this clown keeps getting in trouble with the law or other things. He obviously does not want to be a part of the Chiefs and I would want him either. Someone might give him a chance, but he will probably get a very minimal contract. Think about it. He is 29 (30 is old for RBs), he hasn't produced in a while. He has a bad attitude and has had trouble with the law and has a personal bout with personal stupidity going on. The only teams that could take him and make it work in my opinion would have to be a team that is already good and has a strong enough front office to handle him. Probably New England, Pittsburgh, Indy, and maybe the Eagles or Giants. The problem is that for the most part these teams know they are good enough without him. Yes the Pats took a shot on Moss and the Eagles took a chance on Vick, but even those guys were not as big of pains as LJ. Plus, this is midseason. Those other guys were picked up in the offseason and the teams could feel them out before playing him. LJ's career is over for all intensive purposes...even if someone does take a flier on him. What a clown.

Week 9 Preview

I can't believe the season is already half over. So lets get into this week.

Game of the Week: This was tough. There were a few games I was going between. But here is what I decided. Eagles vs. Cowboys. First, it is a division game. Second, this is for first place and the Giants are falling apart and have a tough game against San Diego. So you have the Cowboys who have been up and down and the Eagles who have done the same. I think it will be a good game, but the Eagles pull it out. They have more playmakers and a better defense I think. I do think much has to do with Tony Romo. Will he keep doing what he's been doing the last few weeks or will he try and force it to Roy E. Williams to shut him up. If he tries to force it the 'Boys will lose for sure.

Worst game of the week: This was an easy choice. Chiefs vs. Jaguars. This could be ugly and I expect Maurice Jones-Drew to have a big game, but it won't be a fun game to watch.

Lock of the week: Packers over the Buccaneers. It seems like a no brainer. They have a better offense and defense. The only reason it might be half close is it is in Tampa and maybe that affects the Packers. I think its at least a 14-point Pack win.

Upset Alert: I don't see anything that would be a big upset. So I will say the underdog Chargers over the Giants. The Giants are at home and I think that gives them the advantage, but I don't like how Elisha Manning (yes that is his real name) has been playing. I'm not guaranteeing this, I just think it is a real possibility.

I think the Cardinals have a shot at the Bears too. Cutler has looked bad and the D is going to be in it deep against the Cards receivers.

Week 8 Review

Poor sport Jets. Bart Scott and Rex Ryan have given me reason to hate the Jets. I used to like them, not any more.
Rex Ryan basically said that the Jets lost even though they are better. They had more offensive yards than the Dolphins. Well guess what, yards do not win games, points do. If you want to go that route, the Dolphins special teams had more yards so they were better. If you are the better team, you do not lose twice to the same team in 20 days. Maybe your offense played better, but your team did not play better or you would have won. Miami played an all around better game. Their return game was superior and their defense came up with a fumble return for a TD. Bart Scott then was very sarcastic say that the Dolphins are a Super Bowl contender and have a great QB, RB's, TE, etc. He continued to say that the Dolphins are "stacked at every position" and they will probably win the Super Bowl.
The Dolphins are not true Super Bowl contenders and won't even win their own division. But neither will the Jets. It may only be two guys on the team acting that way, but its your defensive leader and your coach. It makes your whole organization look bad. Rex Ryan is just bent because all his preseason yapping against the Dolphins has come back to bite him in his backside. Keep on talking Rex and you'll win as many Super Bowls as your dad did as a head coach. ZERO. You can say whatever you want. Just remember to check the scoreboard before you do that. As for the Dolphins, all you need to say is scoreboard.

Now lets move on to something else. Obviously the previous subject is one I feel strongly about.

Rams and Titans. Congrats on getting off the schnide. Always good to see a team get their first win halfway through the season. I expected the Titans to win, not the Rams, but mostly glad they did.

Cutler and Eli Manning. What is wrong with them. They look pretty bad lately, and I've paid attention. I have them on my fantasy team. I used to think I could put either one in and I felt comfortable. Now I'm just trying to see which one will suck less. This week they both looked not good again and the worst thing is Cutler was playing the Browns. Da Bears better figure this out.

Favre goes to Green Bay. This time he was wearing purple. It looked weird. Lots of fans booed and lots cheered. I can see both sides of the argument. He is playing for your rival. He has been trying to get to Minnesota since he left Green Bay so he could stick it to Ted Thompson, Packers GM. I think that Green Bay fans have a right to boo if they want. I don't feel sorry for Favre and his $13M a year salary. That said, Favre has nothing to be ashamed of. Think about if you worked for a company for 16 years and were one of their all time greats. You think you want to retire, and they bring in a young kid to take your spot. You decide you want to come back but they say nope, we've moved on. So then you get an offer from their top competitor that is going to pay you a lot of money for a year or two. You telling me you wouldn't take it. BS. You're going to work for someone who wants you and is willing to pay up, and maybe someone who gives you a chance to stick to your old company. Now its over and we don't have to hear about Favre and the Packers anymore this year.

Week 8 Preview

Game of the Week: I have to say Vikings @ Packers. It may not be the best game, but with Favre heading back to Green Bay, that is pretty big in it self. When fans start to it as Favreageddon, you know its big. I am most interested to see how the fans react. I imagine their will be quite a few cheers and at least as many jeers. As for the game, I think the Packers win it in a close game. Jared Allen will not be nearly as good outside on grass. I also think Rodgers will outplay Favre. I'm picking Green Bay, but hoping Favre scores a TD and does a Lambeau Leap.

Worst game of the week: Jaguars vs. Titans. This has nothing exciting, except to see if the Titans can win a game...and maybe since VY gets to start this game. But I think the only reason you start him is to really find out that he is not your long term QB and you have to draft someone else. I am going to say Tennessee gets their first win of the year. I thinkthat they will finally come together and play good enough to beat a bad Jaguars team. VY might have an ok game because no one has seen him play and no one has really recent tape on him.

Lock of the week: Colts over the 49ers. Alex Smith is starting and that might help the Niners downfield attack, but their are few teams who stand a chance against the Colts and the Niners are not one of them. The only thing I worry about for the Colts is Frank Gore, but Bob Sanders is back and I like the Colts D with him back.

Upset alert: The best upset chance I see is the Dolphins over the Jets. Maybe not a huge upset, but they are the underdogs. Its in New York and will be different weather than they are used to, the Jets should be mad at how the last game ended. I think that Henne will outplay the Sanchize and that will be the difference. Dolphins by 3.

Week 7 Review

Dolphins. I can't believe they blew a 21 point lead. My upset alert was so close. I was disappointed as I watched that lead fall apart. They did everything they needed to...for 29 1/2 minutes. I like where they are going and Chad Henne is better than expected.

Bengals. Wow! Who saw them annihilating Da Bears like that. I didn't. Maybe they are for real...again. They are still tops in there division and have beat all their division opponents. Carson Palmer will not let this team fall apart this year. I think they have a very good chance to make the playoffs.

Redskins. How bad are they? At least they score two touchdowns this week. They hadn't had a touchdown in like 2 weeks. But they did awesome in crunch time finding another way to lose. Credit the Eagles, but they didn't look great either. Outside of 2 huge DeSean Jackson plays, they looked very pedestrian.

Cardinals. They beat the Giants and that was a big surprise to me. I know they are good, but I didn't think they could fly cross country to cold New York and end up winning. Kudos to Arizona, but whats up with the Giants now? They better figure this out, but I still think they will win the East.

Blowouts. 7 of the 13 games were decided by 14 points or more. That's a pretty high number. The league of parity doesn't look like it this year.

Not much to write about this week. Not too many surprises.

Week 7 Preview

Alright, here are this week's picks.

Game of the Week: Vikings @ Steelers. The Vikings are on a nice roll, the Steelers are getting a little desperate. They are at home and the weather is starting to turn cold. You have two very good defenses. The Vikings have a nice offense and the Steelers are a good offense. I think this one will be close, but Pittsburgh wins in a cold game in Blitzburgh. Favre will get hit more this game more than he has been hit all season.

Worst Game of the Week: Bills vs. Panthers: Two bad teams with nothing exciting on either side of the ball. Steve Smith and T.O. have done nothing all season and probably won't do much more given that the Bills are starting their backup, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Jake Delhomme has been playing like a backup all year. Maybe it will be a good defensive battle. I won't be watching it.

Lock of the Week: Colts over the Rams. I was wrong last week when I picked the Eagles over the Raiders. That said I think this one is a certain lock. What is there about the Rams that could beat the Colts? The Colts offense is so much better, its not even close. The Colts defense is far better. Also, the human missle, Bob Sanders is back. Peyton is coming off a bye week and the Colts have had 2 weeks to get healthy and study up for a team they probably just needed to show up without any practice to beat. Colts 38 Rams 10. Well see if I am off, but either way. Colts win.

Upset Alert: Now by upset, I could go off of who the underdog is, but I try and pick one that isn't one that people are nearly split on the winner. I try to make it a little bit difficult. This week the Falcons are underdogs to the Cowboys and the Bears are underdogs to the Bengals. In both cases I think the underdogs will win, but those would not surprise anyone.

So my actual upset alert this week is going to be the Dolphins over the Saints. Here's why. The game is in Miami, I don't think the Saints will be ready for the heat like Miami has practiced in. Miami is coming off a bye week and is more healthy and ready to go. I think that the Phins will do to the Saints what they did to the Colts. They will control the clock with the Wildcat and a controlled game by Chad Henne. It was only because of a Peyton miracle that the Colts won that game. Drew Brees is good, but he is not Peyton. I am going to say Dolphins 24 Saints 20.

Enjoy week 7 everyone.

Week 6 Review

Lock and upset. Eagles. How could they lose that game? I almost picked the Steelers as my lock of the week over the Browns, but I thought the Raiders were worse than the Browns. Maybe they are, but wow. This was a huge upset. So It took until week 6 for me to get the lock of the week wrong. It happens. The Raiders were all over Donovan McNabb. How do the Eagles not get into the end zone? This is one of the big upsets of the season to me.

I did get my upset of the Texans over the Bengals right though. I knew the Bengals would throw away a game at home. And the Texans are a pretty good team. It was only a matter of time before the Bengals gave one away.

Broncos and Jets. The Broncos are for real. I was wrong along with everyone else in the nation. The Broncos are not a product of their schedule. They are a good team and with Kyle Orton and a new coach are probably going to be in the playoffs. Big ups to Josh McDaniels. J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets. What happened to that team. Mark Sanchez was being heralded as the next big thing and was Joe Namath part II. Rex Ryan was a genious. The Jets D was the second coming of the Ravens D. Not so fast my friend. They have fallen just as quickly as they rose to the top. They better get it figured out. Though they might have a problem because they are flying to Oakland to play the Raiders. Cross country flight against a team riding a high after knocking off the Eagles.

Patriots. It seems like the Patriots love snow days. They always seem to win, and win big when it snows in Foxboro. 59-0 over a team that many had predicted to be a super bowl contender. Though the Titans are not what we thought they were. Tom Brady had a nice day to say the least. The Pats are interesting this season. Sometimes they look great, sometimes...not so much. The bigger surprise is the demise of the Titans. What happened? 13-3 to 0-6. Thats the NFL for you. Horrible one year, great the next or vice versa.

Week 6 Preview

Game of the week: Giants vs. Saints. Its in N'awlins. I like the G-Men in this one bacause of the defense, though I do think the Saints D has improved. Everyone likes Brees better because of his numbers, but lets take fantasy out of it. Who would you want? I would take Eli as my QB. He is calm and colelcted and his winning record on the road over the last few years is amazing. He is 20-3 on the road since the beginning of the 2007 season, including the Super Bowl. I think the best thing the Saints have going for them is that they are coming off a bye week and have had 2 weeks to get healthy and prepare for the Giants. This should be a good game, I like the Giants better at D and running the ball.

Worst game of the week: This was a three way race, but I have to go with the Buccaneers vs. Panthers. There is nothing good about this game. The Bucs offense is offensive and the D is horrible. The Panthers should be better but they are not. This has stinker written all over it. On the bright side, it should better than last weeks worst game of the week.

Lock of the week: Eagles over the Raiders. The Raiders are horrible and the Eagles are starting to hit there stride. I like the Eagles by about 4 TD's. Ok maybe 3 TD's, but a 30 point win would not surprise me.

Upset alert: I hope I am wrong, but I think that there is a good chance the Texans beat the Bengals. The Bengals have had very little success over the last few years and when they do, it seems as if they cannot handle it like men. We will see and I hope they stomp Houston, but I fear an upset here.

Week 5 Review

Broncos. I hate to admit it, but the Broncos are good. 5-0 is good no matter who you are. They also beat a good Patriots team...at least I think they are good. Coach Josh McDaniels has them playing hard and well. Kyle Orton is doing what he needs to do for them to win. The Broncos are far better than I thought they would be. They are going into San Diego on MNF this week and that is going to be a much better game than anticipated previously. Big ups to the Broncos. Thumbs down to those mustard and crap uniforms. Please do not wear those again. Those were the worst uni's I've ever seen. If anyone can find anything worse, feel free to let me know.

Cardiac Cats. Or the Bengals. They are 4-1 and a tipped pass away from 5-0. Are they for real? I don't know, but they seem like it. Even though they are not destroying anyone, they are winning. Wins over the Packers, Steelers, Ravens, and nearly the Broncos. Those are 4 quality teams. The Bengals and Carson Palmer in particular are staying calm and poise at the end of games. I think they might be a front runner for this division if they can keep improving every week.

Wildcat. How about the Dolphins and the Wildcat offense. Everyone was saying that the Jets would stop it because Rex Ryan knew how to do it. Well his Jets D is good, but still not what he had in Baltimore. The Phins added a few new wrinkles, but more than anything, they just flat out overpowered the Jets D-line. Lots of so called experts said that the Wildcat was a phase and now that teams had an entire offseason to look at it, it would be shut down. It does not appear so. The Dolphins are able to control the clock and if not for having to play Peyton Manning in week 2 would be 3-2 and tied for the AFC East lead.

49ers. What happened? They just were not the same team. They were undisciplined and just were horrible. What was Dre Bly doing with his Primetime impersonation? Couple of things Dre. You were still 70 yards from the end zone. Make sure you get there first. Next, you were down 35-10. Tell me what there is to celebrate about that. That was one of the biggest bonehead plays that I can remember in recent history. I don't remember Primetime ever being caught from behind. Hope the Niners take a long hard look during the week off. If you haven't seen it, go to this link and watch it. Scroll down to the lower video. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8135ca4e&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

My game ball this week goes to Matt Hasselback. Look at the stats and the win. That will explain it all.

Week 5 Preview

Sorry this is coming so close to game time. I was at a wedding all night and then I came home and stayed up late to watch the Huskies beat Arizona...with a little luck. So here is week 5.

Game of the week: Patriots at Broncos. The Pats are 3-1, the Broncos are 4-0 even though I think overrated a little, they are better than I thought. 4-0 is still 4-0. The Broncos are the only team in the NFL that the Golden Boy (Tom Brady) has a losing record against. He is 1-5 against them. So a very bad losing record. His only win vs Denver was in 2003. There just are not a lot of high quality games it appears this week. So this is it. I am picking the Patriots, but would not be surprised if Denver pulls it out.

Worst game of the week: Browns vs. Bills. Once again, nothing exciting about this one. I do think T.O. could have a nice game, but there is absolutely nothing that intrigues me about this one.

Lock of the week: I thought about picking the Giants. But that would be 3 weeks straight. I will take the Minnesota Vikings over the the St. Louis Rams because its someone different and the Rams are the worst team in the league I believe. A.D., Favre and that Minnesota D will crush the Rams.

Upset alert: I am going to say watch out for the Chiefs over the Cowboys. The Cowboys have had trouble stopping the run and rushing the passer. The Chiefs might be able to have a good running game and decent play action off of that. I think it will be a little high scoring with scores in the mid 20's to mid 30's. Not overly confident, but this is one upset that I feel the Chiefs could pull off. Second week in a row I have chosen America's team to get upset.

Enjoy week 5.

Week 4 Review

Roughing the Brady. Thanks to Keith Olbermann for the roughing the Brady phrase. I thought that both the roughing the passer calls were a little weak. The one where he got hit in the helmet...ok. But the one where T-Sizzle hit him down low. He barely brushed his thigh pads. I like Brady as a player. He even admitted that it wasn't a big hit, so why was he calling for the penalty. Rodney Harrison said it perfectly when he called out his former teammate and said to take the skirt off and put on some slacks. I'm glad the NFL did not fine Ray Lewis or Ed Reed. On that particular hit...or non-hit, I know that its not the players fault and the official calls it, but the only QB's in the league who get that call are Brady and Peyton Manning. I am a big fan of Manning and still like Brady. The thing is, why didn't this rule get changed after the 2005 season when Carson Palmer tore his ACL and everything else like Brady? Because Palmer is not Brady and does not have the rings? You saw all the pink on Sunday being worn by the players, well, if they keep this rule in place they might as well give QB's the pink jerseys to go with it. Everyone will know only 2 hand touch the guy in the pink jersey.

Pink. I thought it was cool that the NFL and the players wore pink. This is the most masculine sport in the U.S. and these guys were not afraid to wear pink. It was for a great cause and the NFL and players should be applauded for it.

Broncos. They are 4-0. Now it gets tough. We will see what they really are made of in the upcoming weeks. Looking at the schedule I think they will finish the season 8-8, which is better than I expected to start the season. If they beat New England this week I may re-evaluate everything.

Week 4 Preview

Game of the week: This was a hard choice so this week I am picking two. First, Ravens at Patriots. This is a chance for the Ravens to prove what many have been saying, that they are the best in the league. I like the Ravens D more than the Pats and the offense has been great and the Pats have been so-so. The Pats have been off, but Brady is still one of the best. This will be a fun one to watch. Reluctantly I have to say the Ravens will win. I hope I am wrong, but I think they are better all around.

Number 2. Jets at Saints. Sanchez at Brees. I think the Saints will win. They are at home, and have an explosive offense. The Jets have a very good D and a good offense. I just trust Brees a little more in this spot. But I have picked against the Jets every game this season and they keep proving me wrong. This is a huge statement game for the Jets.

Worst game of the week: Buccaneers at Redskins. There is just nothing to be excited about in this game other than to see if Jim Zorn is going to keep his job for another week or not. I feel bad for the guys who have to announce this game. Feel more sorry for the fans who bought these tickets.

Lock of the week: Giants over the Chiefs. I know the G-Men were my pick last week, but come on, they are playing the Chiefs. Nuff said.

Upset of the week: I don't feel really confident about this but I a picking it anyways. Broncos over the Cowboys. In Denver I just like the Broncos right now. Marion Barber is banged up and Felix Jones is out. I just have a hunch that Denver gets this done.

Week 3 Review

J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets. The Jets are becoming a weekly tradition here. They keep winning with a rookie head coach and rookie QB. They have beaten pretty good teams also. They are the surprise of this young season so far. I think they have to this point exceeded every one's expectations. The thing is everyone knows how they want to play, but no one can stop them...although the Titans gave up 14 of the Jets 24 points due to muffed punts and kickoffs, but you can't take anything away. 3-0 is 3-0.

Denver Broncos. As much as I hate to say it the Broncos are 3-0 also. I know they have only beaten the Ohio teams and the Raiders and were lucky to get by the Bengals, but once again 3-0 is 3-0.

Big Cats. When was the last time the Bengals and Lions both won on the same day...or even same football weekend? I don't know, I'll probably research this. Congrats to the Lions for winning and snapping a 19-game losing streak. Also, nice work to the Bengals for exercising the demons of the Steelers and winning one in Cincy. I am proud that I picked both of these. At this point the better team won in both of these games.

The Golden Boys. Tom Brady showed Matt Ryan why he is still the Golden Boy and Matty Ice is not there and hasn't earned the crown yet, though he is getting closer. When it counted Brady showed the league why he is still the man.

Seahawks jerseys. What was up with those neon green jerseys? Wow. Those were the most hideous uni's I've ever seen. But I kind of liked them in a warped way, but they probably ought to not be on the field again. Just let your fans buy them. Please refrain from wearing those things again.

Week 3 preview

Things to watch for.

Michael Vick. How much does he play in an actual game and how effective is he? I think he will be ok, but he will not be what everyone remembers.

I got to this a little late this week because I stayed up late watching UW lose to Stanford. Gotta play better than that boys. Also watched USC beat WSU. Needed a bigger butt kicking than that on the Cougars.

Here we go.

Game of the Week: Patriots vs. Falcons. This is a statement game for both teams. Atlanta is finally on the road and playing a team that has arguably been the best in the league this decade. Can Matt Ryan and company go into Foxboro and cause the Pats to lose consecutive games for the first time in 41 games? Will the Pats begin to look like the Pats of old? I will say I expect somewhat of a shootout if Randy Moss and Wes Welker play. They are both banged up and could miss the game. The Golden Boy vs. the future Golden Boy? Maybe. I will pick the Patriots because I just think they will come out and have a game plan ready to go that is too much for Atlanta at the end of the day.

Worst game of the week: Broncos vs. Raiders. I think this is just a bad game. It will be a boring one to watch if you have to. Unfortunately it is the only afternoon game I have going on here. What about this game excites you? Denver possibly going 3-0? If you're a Bronco fan maybe.

Lock of the week: New York Giants will beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I don't think there is much to explain. I know the G-Men are beat up a little, but the Bucs are that bad. The only positive thing they have going is Cadillac and he is banged up.

Upset of the week: I am picking Detroit to upset the Redskins and get their first win in 20 tries. I just think that Detroit's offense is getting better and has shown more than Washington's. Detroit is better than St. Louis and Washington barely escaped that one with a win. Also, Clinton Portis is banged up and he is the only thing they have going offensively.

I also believe Cincinnati will beat Pittsburgh, but not as confident as Detroit over Washington. I think that Cincy has more going offensively than Pittsburgh and their D has been actually better than the Steelers by the numbers. I am torn because I want Cincy to win but I have Pittsburgh's D on my fantasy team.

Enjoy the games.

Week 2 review

J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets. What can I say? I don't think it was a huge upset because they are a good team. What I think is great is how Rex Ryan walked in there and basically said this is what is going to happen. We are going to try and physically beat up everyone and we do not care who you are. The Jets have been talking the talk all offseason and basically calling out the 3 time super bowl champion Patriots, and have not apologized for anything they've said. Now they have walked the walk. I love what the Jets are doing.

Cutler bounces back. Cutler shut up everyone...this week. We will see if he can have more good games than bad, I think he will. He is a gunslinger and always will be. Big win for the Bears. Everyone needs to slow down and not overreact so fast. A guy has a bad week and he is horrible, the next week he plays well and now is great. Give it sometime before making conclusions on any players or teams.

Who Dey. The Cincinnati Bengals had easily the biggest upset of the week with a win over the 9-point favorite Packers. RB, Cedric Benson, and DE Antwan Odom were great this week. The question now is will the Bengals who played the Broncos or Packers show up each week?

Huskies

I'm surprised the Washington Huskies are ranked #24. I didn't think that would get them in. Thats not important though. They need to keep playing hard and not let up. They have a leg up on the Pac-10 race if they can stay healthy and keep it going. GO DAWGS!

Things to watch in week 2.

Jets vs. Pats. Jets have been talking noise, can they back it up? I think they have a chance. They shutout Houston's offense last week and the Texans had the 3rd ranked offense in the league last season. I think it should be a good game. I still think the Pats get it done and win this one.

Cutler, take 2. How will Cutler play against the Steelers D after a horrendous game last week? I think he will play better, but he still has a rough go at it.

Can Detroit win a game? I think they will, but not this week. This game leads me into my 4 picks of the week that I will start now.

Lock of the week, game of the week, upset alert, and worst game of the week. I am basing the underdogs and favorites from Yahoo Sports odds. The lock of the week is the one where I think there can be no chance of an upset. My upset is just like it sounds. The team that I think has the best chance to win that is not favored. I'll try and stay away from games where it is supposed to be very even. Game of the week is the game I think everyone would want to watch even if you are not a fan of either team. And last, worst game is the one that no one should watch.

Lock: Vikings over Detroit

Game of the week: Jets vs. Patriots. I think a lot of this has to do with offseason and recent talk.

Worst game of the week: Browns at Broncos. I think this will be a dreadful game to have to watch. Its on in my area tomorrow and I will more than likely not see any of it.

Upset alert: If I went straight off an underdog list, I would say the Saints because the Eagles are favored. I know this one is not a stretch and I actually think the Saints win, how are they the underdog with McNabb out? But I will say Dolphins over Colts. I don't actually think it will happen, but I see potential there.

Enjoy week 2.

HOW BOUT THEM HUSKIES!

First things first. How awesome was it to see Washington upset USC. That was great. That was no fluke. They had a great game plan and outplayed and outcoached USC. Biggest upset of the college football season. The great thing is, the players for UW are all young. Mostly Soph's and Freshman with a few Juniors. Locker is the man and is looking more and more like a true double threat QB now that he is becoming an accurate passer. Big ups to Chris Polk, Sarkisan and the rest of the Huskies. Especially the D coming through. GO DAWGS!

Week 1 Recap

Brian Urlacher. Da Bears star middle LB is out for the season. That's bad for them. He may be getting long in the tooth, but he still knows how to hit and more importantly is the leader of that defense and the team. It is going to be a big loss to that defense.

Rookie QB's. Mark Sanchez looked really good and was even better than I expected, even though I thought he'd play well because he has a good running game and defense. He exceeded expectation. He made a few small mistakes but overall pretty well.

Matthew Stafford. Given he doesn't have a defense or as nice of a running game as Sanchez, I didn't think he was horrible. Yeah, he had 3 INT's, but his defense put him behind very fast. They had to throw so that will happen. I think he will be OK...but Detroit has a knack for bringing in QB's and destroying their careers. Hopefully Stafford can break that curse.

Bad play by veteran QB's. Jake Delhomme and Jay Cutler were horrible. Delhomme has 9 picks and 2 fumbles in his last 2 games after receiving a $42 million, $20 million guaranteed in the offseason. That decision is not looking so good. I know, its only one week, but a veteran has to be better than that. Cutler on the other hand, I'll give somewhat of a pass to. He is still relatively new to the offense and his receivers are very young and not very seasoned. But he doesn't look much better than Grossman and worse than Orton at this time. Not what you want when you trade two 1st round picks, a 3rd round pick, and your own starting QB. He might get better, but I'm not playing him on my fantasy team this week. I'll take my backup, Eli Manning. At least I can trust he won't turn it over 4 times.

Cincinnati Bengals. Did you see how they lost this one? Very few teams could pull out an exciting loss in this fashion against an inferior opponent in my opinion. I know, Denver won, I still think Cincy is better and will have a better season. But its like a sign I once saw, it said "Once a bungle, always a bungle". This was definitely a play and loss only the Bungles could pull off. Good luck topping this loss Bungles...well I've watched enough Bengals games over the years to know that they probably will top it soon. The Bengal getting arrested was funny to me so I put it in.

HUSKIES WIN!

Congrats to the Washington Huskies for winning their first game since November 2007. It was nice to see and far overdue. Good work boys. Now time for USC.

Huskies

Last post today and I know it has nothing to do with the NFL, but Husky information will make this blog too.

UW vs. Idaho in Seattle. It is the day UW breaks the 15 game losing streak dating back to November 2007. 1:30pm FSN NW. I will be watching and after they win...they better win...I will be taking my son out for a celebratory desert.

Go Huskies!

Things to watch for in Week 1

QB's returning from injury:

Tom Brady and his repaired knee. How will it hold up for an entire game? I think it will be fine. He hasn't played in a full game in 19 months. Then he hurt his shoulder in Week 3 of the preseason when big Albert Haynesworth fell on him. I think he will be fine. He's the Golden Boy. What could go wrong? Time will tell.

Carson Palmer is returning after missing 12 games last season with an elbow injury and then he only played a few drives in the first preseason game before being knocked out with a sprained ankle that causes him to miss the rest of the preseason. That said, I think it had something to do with the fact that it was the preseason and no need risking further injury in the preseason. If he is right and Chad Johnson...oh yes, Ochocinco is right I think they Bengals could be a surprise team...at least offensively.

Old and injured QB:

Brett Favre. Well this story has been reported at nausea

so I am going to just stop here.

Rookie starting QB's:

Matthew Stafford is in a tough situation. But I think he can be a good player. Just don't expect too much yet. He does have Megatron (Calvin Johnson) and Kevin Smith to help him. O-line needs to protect him and the D will be a question coming off of last season. Don't expect much...but he may have big numbers day because they will probably fall behind quickly and have to throw a lot.

Mark Sanchez: Probably not as big of numbers as Stafford, but more efficient and better shot a win. Jets have a good D that could be great by season's end and a good running game. Sanchez played in a pro style offense and is in a better situation than any of the previous Pete Carrol USC QB's came into (Leinart and Palmer). I like Sanchez this season. He will make mistakes, but Peyton Manning still makes mistakes. They all do, but he will be pretty good I think. Time will tell. I just love his situation in New York.

Wildcat: What else will the Dolphins run out of the Wildcat?

I'll be back Tuesday for my Week 1 recap.

Blog introduction

Purpose of this blog:

My purpose is to combine a couple of things I like to do. I like to talk sports...let me be more clear. I love to talk football. Mainly the NFL and Washington Husky football. So I am going to be making my season predictions. Every week I will update this blog and discuss what I think are some things to watch the following week and things to review about the previous week.

This is a way for me to talk football, even if it is with myself, and practice writing so that maybe someday I can turn this into a profession. If not, its still fun for me.

I apologize the site doesn't look great yet, but I just started it now on September 11, 2009 @ 11:50 pm. It will look better as I have time to add to it. Hope you enjoy it. If you have anything to comment on you can email me at timmydnflblog@gmail.com
